Physical Education

At Sarisbury Infant School, we aim to provide excellent opportunities to get children active and moving, not just in Physical Education lessons, but through our continuous provision. Throughout the school we integrate physical activities within our outside areas, welly walks, crew challenges and in Year 2 our daily Crew-a –cise.

 

During our taught lessons we follow the National Curriculum and ensure that all our children:

- develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities

 -are physically active for sustained periods of time

 -engage in competitive sports and activities

This in turn we believe will help them to lead active and healthy lives.

 

Our children develop fundamental movement skills, become increasingly competent and confident and access a broad range of opportunities to extend their agility, balance and coordination, individually and with others. They engage in competitive (both against self and against others) and co-operative physical activities, in a range of increasingly challenging situations.

 

The children are taught to:

 -Master basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination, and begin to apply these in a range of activities

 -participate in team games, developing simple tactics for attacking and defending

 -perform dances using simple movement patterns.

 

We participate in Interschool Festivals and Competitions organised by Henry Cort School throughout the year to enable children to improve their skills for a defined purpose. We have regular coaches and Specialist Teacher, Sue Gardiner is in each week too.
